In 1. Reading God's Word
Reading God’s Word Gather with your household each day for a time to be formed by God’s Word. God’s Word connects your faith to your life. Here are some simple steps for how to properly receive God’s gifts together in the Word. Pick a time to do this each day. Run through the memory work for this week once or twice. Make the sign of the cross and remember how God has called you to be His own through your Baptism. Say a prayer for the Holy Spirit to form your faith. Consider saying the Lord’s Prayer or using an order of daily devotion from the hymnal. Find the Bible verse for the day in your Bible. Highlight the verse and read it out loud at least twice. Consider the question, and talk through together how God’s Word helps you answer the question. Say a prayer, including telling God what you’ve learned from His Word, but also thanking Him for what you’ve been given, confessing your sins, and praying for specific needs. Then, go your way in peace. Please post each day after you have talked with your parents. Day 1—John 20:31 How does God’s Word give you life? What does it tell you about Jesus? Day 2—John 5:39 Jesus is the focus of the Bible. When people don’t focus on Jesus in Scripture, what else do they focus on? Day 3—Psalm 1 What are some ways God’s Word gives you life when you realize it, and when you don’t realize it? Day 4—Acts 2:42 How did the early disciples treat God’s Word? How does that connect to our lives as modern-day disciples? Day 5—1 Timothy 4:13 Why is it important to read the Bible both in public worship and in our daily lives?

The Small Catechism tells us to call upon God in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks. Hymns are a great source of all these and sometimes give voice to our silent pleas, prayers, and praise. Tell me your favorite hymn and why it is your favorite. Look for it in the coming weeks in service!
